Back to Cosmetic Dentistry

With veneers, our team at The Cathedral Close Dental Practice can help create a head-turning, Hollywood A list-style smile transformation in just a few steps.

Veneers can transform a smile, covering up issues such as cracks, chips, gaps, discolouration, misalignment, and overlapping issues.

Veneers cover the surface of a natural tooth or teeth. They can be used on just one tooth or to transform a whole row of teeth for a seriously head-turning finish that you won’t be able to stop showing off.

FAQs

What are veneers made of?

Veneers are most commonly made of porcelain, which is exceptionally strong and durable and very effective at mimicking the surface of a natural tooth.

More recent innovations in cosmetic dentistry have also led to the application of composite veneers, which are slightly less hard-wearing but quicker and easier to apply and more minimally invasive for the patient.

Who are veneers most suitable for?

Veneers are most suited to patients looking to address aesthetic issues with their smiles. They may be unhappy with their smile’s shade, shape, or unevenness while also not being a suitable candidate for other treatments such as aligners or composite bonding.

In most cases, patients will have to have otherwise healthy teeth with no clinical issues to address, and, as with all our cosmetic treatments, we’ll first have to establish the patient’s viability and suitability for the treatment at a consultation.

How are veneers applied?

Porcelain veneers require some of the natural surfaces of the tooth to be removed for the application of the veneers to be successful.

Advances in the techniques and technology used to mean that this is now far more minimal than it used to be, but it does mean that veneers are a permanent change to your smile.

Composite veneers are much more similar in application to composite bonding and are bonded in place to the tooth’s surface.

How long do veneers last?

Porcelain veneers usually last 7-10 years, while composite veneers usually last 3-8 years.
