At The Cathedral Close Dental Practice, we love welcoming our youngest patients to the practice and helping them develop and maintain their optimum oral health for years to come.

Our team values your oral health and always aims to provide the highest level of care possible, especially when it comes to providing dental care for children. At The Cathedral Close Dental Practice, we know how important it is to start children off on the right foot when it comes to their oral healthcare.

With proper care and a healthy foundation, your children’s oral health can be maintained and promoted for years to come with as few interventions as possible.

FAQs

When should a child first visit the dentist?

Children should be brought in for their first dental exam by the time they turn one or when their first tooth or teeth begin to erupt.

How often should children visit the dentist?

We recommend regular dental examinations to all our patients, especially our youngest patients, as children are growing and their teeth are always changing at this early stage.

Children should visit the dentist twice a year for optimum health and results. Depending on their individual situation and oral health, we may recommend more – or, in some cases, fewer – visits.

What treatments do you offer for children?

At The Cathedral Close Dental Practice, our most important treatment for children is their regular dental examinations.

During these, we thoroughly examine the teeth and oral health and ensure that everything is being properly cared for and that the teeth are developing as they should.

Where necessary, we also recommend fluoride treatments, fissure sealants, fillings and orthodontic treatments.

How should children care for their teeth at home?

It’s very important to establish a good oral health routine at home from an early age. Parents can help with this by being enthusiastic and proactive when it comes to their children’s teeth cleaning routine and always being positive when referring to the dentist.

Before teeth come through, you should wipe the gums so they’re free of bacteria and debris and so you can help prevent tooth decay from developing. As teeth start to erupt, you can brush their teeth twice a day with a smear or pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste, depending on their age.
